Important work on the CSP’s crucial digital consolidation project continued up to and through the holiday season, but some important functionality considerations for the new CSP website means the website launch has been pushed into the New Year. There will also be other impacts of digital consolidation in 2017, including a new schedule for this 5/5 newsletter, which will shift from monthly to roughly once every six weeks and four issues before the summer.
Digital consolidation is a multi-portfolio project launched in the fall of 2016 to rationalize and integrate multiple digital platforms, programs, applications across the CSP, and ensure they all work together to optimize efficiency, flexibility and scalability. A key first step is a new CSP website, but that website is only part of phase one in a three-phase plan. The digital consolidation project is being led by Sheila Reesor, with executive oversight from VPs Geoff Scotton of the brand and partners group and Andrew Larcombe of the business operations group. Representatives of all of the four national portfolios are part of the working group.
The original intent was to have the website ready for mid-December 2016, but ensuring professional functionality of certain website features has slightly slowed down this phase of digital consolidation. The central focus is to get it done right, rather than quickly.
Simultaneously, the group is beginning the initial investigation around and planning toward the next phase of digital consolidation, which focuses on document management systems and applications, and interoperability between the website and other platforms, such as the National Database System, or NDS.
Phase II details the plan for phase III and focuses on the development of national policies regarding infrastructure, content and access to information, defining IT solutions and finding the right balance between volunteer services and possible paid/contracted resources. Phase three will implement that clearly defined plan and includes testing, possible data migration, and last but not least, integration of all division/zone/patrol websites. A major objective will be the achievement of a single sign-on (SSO) for users.
We will be letting everyone know about the launch of the website through social media and potentially email. The new website is an important step in reflecting the new Canadian Ski Patrol to manifest our organization’s renewal and commitment to being modern, professional and relevant.
Along with the website, digital consolidation is leading to a number of changes in other areas of CSP communications. One will be the frequency and timing of the 5/5 newsletter. As of 2017, rather than monthly, there will be issues in early January, the end of February, April and late May or June. There will also be a dedicated vehicle for executive and administration communications to division presidents and zone presidents. This is slated to be launched early in the New Year. The goal is to ensure information relevant to different internal CSP audiences is directed to members of those audiences.
