As the season starts we all pull out our gear, dust it off, feel bad about not tuning it before we put it away like we promised we wouldn’t do, and get it ready for another exhilarating year. Returning patrollers begin thinking about their ski areas and start to feel that comfort of settling into their familiar winter routine. For some patrollers however this year it’s different.
As you may have heard, the CSP has a new partner to support. Panorama Mountain Village near Invermere, B.C. extended an invitation for us to bring our program to its absolutely amazing resort. Backstopped with support from the Calgary Zone and a bunch of excited patrollers a new patrol started to form. With a new patrol comes new energy and new adventures for our members. It has attracted the best of the best to participate in this project. An assembly of 15 members from three different zones all converged at Panorama for an orientation weekend in early December. Everyone was excited to be a part of something new.
The resort was pleased with the quality and number of patrollers we supplied for orientation. As December continued our rostered patrollers (most of them patrolling at two hills) worked hard to organize their schedules, show up, and demonstrate our commitment to professionalism. Listening to management reflect we learned that they see value in having a
volunteer patrol program and are glad to have pursued it. In part, they see this as a way to deliver top-notch customer service to Panorama patrons. The season is now partially complete and it is becoming a great success. The thought of a regular CSP patrol at Panorama at one time seemed so far away. It was an intangible idea that was too far in the future to really believe as something that could be real. Now regular patrol weekends are cruising by too fast; way quicker than we ever imagined they would.
It is wonderful to see this project come to life and watch it grow and thrive. It has been a plan on paper for some time. The CSP aims to be an organization that is modern, professional, and relevant. It achieves this goal through different ways, one of them by providing our services to new resorts and new-to-us resorts. Not only are we expanding to new customers; we are doing it in a professional way with unbeatable service which reflects us being modern and relevant. Helping on this project is rewarding for everyone involved. Thank you to all who contributed and we hope to see you on the hill sometime soon.
