Calgary Zone has been awarded a volunteer casino on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 5 & 6, 2026.  The casino venue is our usual one – Pure Casino Calgary – in Northeast Calgary.  Our casino advisors will once again be “Team Weis”.  Gordon Merz is the Calgary Zone Casino Chair and is responsible for recruiting volunteers to fill all of the positions for the two days.

Casinos are a major fundraiser for Calgary Zone. They enable us to subsidize our annual registration fees for members who work at fundraising events. Casino funds are also critical in enabling us to provide training programs, equipment, and patroller uniforms. One casino shift is all that is required to fulfill your annual volunteer commitment, so if you were unable to volunteer at the Calgary New and Used Ski Sale in October, you can fulfill your volunteer commitment with one shift at the casino.

It may seem a bit early for recruiting volunteers, but we need to complete our casino license form on which we are required to list the volunteers for the key casino positions.  No prior experience is required – everyone receives training for each position from our advisors.

A total of 19 volunteers are required each day (Tuesday and Wednesday, May 5 & 6, 2026), spread across three shifts:

Afternoon shift – 11:00am to 7:30pm

Evening shift – 6:30pm to 3:30am

* Requires a gaming worker background check, which Gordon will send if you sign up for one of these positions.
