SUMMARY:Critical Incident Stress Management Course: Defusings (Day 2)
DESCRIPTION:A critical incident is any event that causes a strong emotional reaction with the potential to interfere with a person’s ability to function — an accident that has the ability to overwhelm an individual’s normal coping mechanisms. \nWhen patrollers have the opportunity to talk about the incident\, sharing their thoughts during the incident and their reactions to the incident\, it unquestionably helps in the healing process. Mountain Division CSP have patrollers trained to help guide these structured conversations.  And simply put\, it works. It works to help mitigate symptoms\, facilitate closure\, and return to function. \nOur courses prepare you to be an effective member of the CISM team by developing and practicing skills to support patrollers during a critical incident. We provide you with the knowledge\, training\, tools\, and practice to help those who help others. \nIf you are interested in becoming part of our amazing CISM team\, Mountain Division is holding an in-person CISM course this season. It will be a Defusings – Individual Interactions and Small Group class.  This is the first of two courses we hold in Mountain Division and the prerequisite for the full-scale Debriefing course (to be held possibly next season).  We held this Defusings course this past September and it was so popular we are holding a second one! \n\nDates:  Saturday 25 January 2025 (all day);  Sunday 26 January 2025 (1/2 day until noon)\nLocation:  Calgary (exact location to be confirmed)\nHotel:  Will be covered for Friday and Saturday nights for those attending from outside of Calgary.\nMeals:  Saturday lunch and Sunday breakfast will also be covered for all.\nRegistration Deadline: December 30\, 2024. Space is limited!\n\nThis course is not only for new folks who want to join our CISM team\, but also for existing team members if you want or need a refresher or just more practice honing your skills. \nTo register\, or if you have any questions\, please email Sandra Williams. \nWe provide a crucial and critical service to our teams. We have made a tremendous difference over the years to so many patrollers and others. The more patrollers on our team\, the better and more widespread our support is! Let’s continue to do so!
