DESCRIPTION:All patrollers (new\, returning\, and transfers) must complete an annual fundraising commitment. Fundraising enables us to keep our membership fees low and helps us purchase training supplies\, equipment\, uniforms\, radios\, and much more. \nYou can complete your fundraising commitment for the year by working for two 4-hour shifts at the Calgary New & Used Ski Sale in October. Working at the ski sale is lots of fun and there is a wide range of roles available (sales\, cash\, security\, parking lot\, etc.). Sign up for volunteer shifts early in September to get the shifts/duties you prefer. \nIf you can’t do your shifts personally\, you can ask a friend or a family member to work on your behalf. You just need to let us know who is serving your shift for you.

When patrollers have the opportunity to talk about a stressful incident and share their thoughts\, feelings\, and reactions\, it unquestionably helps in the healing process. Our CISM Team is trained to help guide these structured conversations and\, simply put\, it works. CISM techniques help mitigate symptoms\, facilitating closure and return to function. \nThis season\, the Individual Interaction and Small Group Defusing course is open to all current patrollers who want to join our CISM Team and anyone who might need a refresher! This course is a prerequisite for the Full-Scale Debriefing course\, which will hopefully be offered next season. \nThe Defusing course is a 1.5 day\, face-to-face course held in Calgary on September 5 (half day) and September 6 (full day). \nCheck your email for the registration instructions from the Canadian Ski Patrol – Calgary Zone. The events are hosted at some of the most spectacular natural spaces in Canada. Each race takes place on pre-marked trails with participants running over rocks\, roots\, tree stumps and logs\, through mud puddles\, snow and so much more. \nFounded in 1998\, the 5 race series originated in the Vancouver area. The series has since spread across Canada and offers events in five regions: British Columbia\, Central Alberta\, Northern Alberta\, Ontario and Quebec. The series events provide participants an option of 4-5 course lengths (1 km Kids\, Competitive Kids ~3K\, Sport (~ 5K to 8K)\, Enduro (~10K-15K)\, and GRIT (~18-25K)). \nTrue to the 5 Peaks tag line\, people are increasingly motivated to GET OFF THE ROAD and onto the trails. The series runs from April to October each year. Each event consists of a free Children’s Challenge (50m – 1km)\, a Timed Kids Challenge (about 3k)\, a Sport (5-8 km) entry-level course\, and an Enduro (10-15 km) intermediate to advanced course.
