SUMMARY:Calgary Zone Casino
DESCRIPTION:Calgary Zone has been awarded a volunteer casino on Tuesday and Wednesday\, May 5 & 6\, 2026.  The casino venue is our usual one – Pure Casino Calgary – in Northeast Calgary.  Our casino advisors will once again be “Team Weis”.  Gordon Merz is the Calgary Zone Casino Chair and is responsible for recruiting volunteers to fill all of the positions for the two days. \nCasinos are a major fundraiser for Calgary Zone. They enable us to subsidize our annual registration fees for members who work at fundraising events. Casino funds are also critical in enabling us to provide training programs\, equipment\, and patroller uniforms. One casino shift is all that is required to fulfill your annual volunteer commitment\, so if you were unable to volunteer at the Calgary New and Used Ski Sale in October\, you can fulfill your volunteer commitment with one shift at the casino. \nIt may seem a bit early for recruiting volunteers\, but we need to complete our casino license form on which we are required to list the volunteers for the key casino positions.  No prior experience is required – everyone receives training for each position from our advisors. \nA total of 19 volunteers are required each day (Tuesday and Wednesday\, May 5 & 6\, 2026)\, spread across three shifts: \nAfternoon shift – 11:00am to 7:30pm\nGeneral Manager (1)*\nBanker (1)*\nCashier (2)\nChip Runner (2) \nEvening shift – 6:30pm to 3:30am\nGeneral Manager (1)*\nBanker (1)*\nCashier (2)\nChip Runner (2) \nCount Room – 11:00pm to 3:30 am\nGeneral Manager (1)*\nCount Room Supervisor (1)*\nCount Room Staff (5) \n* Requires a gaming worker background check\, which Gordon will send if you sign up for one of these positions. \nPlease contact Gordon Merz at gordon.merz@skipatrol.ca to volunteer for one or more shifts. Don’t delay to ensure you get your favorite role. \nPlease send Gordon the following required information: \n\nDate\nShift – Afternoon\, Evening\, Count Room\nPosition (see above)\nYour legal name on your driver’s licence\nEmail address\nCellphone number

SUMMARY:5 Peaks Trail Running Series: Weaselhead Flats
DESCRIPTION:Patrollers needed: \n\nBikes: 12\nStart/Finish: 2\nFoot Patrol: 2\n\nThe 5 Peaks Trail Running Series delivers some of the best trail running this country has to offer. The events are hosted at some of the most spectacular natural spaces in Canada. Each race takes place on pre-marked trails with participants running over rocks\, roots\, tree stumps and logs\, through mud puddles\, snow and so much more. \nFounded in 1998\, the 5 race series originated in the Vancouver area. The series has since spread across Canada and offers events in five regions: British Columbia\, Central Alberta\, Northern Alberta\, Ontario and Quebec. The series events provide participants an option of 4-5 course lengths (1 km Kids\, Competitive Kids ~3K\, Sport (~ 5K to 8K)\, Enduro (~10K-15K)\, and GRIT (~18-25K)). \nTrue to the 5 Peaks tag line\, people are increasingly motivated to GET OFF THE ROAD and onto the trails. The series runs from April to October each year. Each event consists of a free Children’s Challenge (50m – 1km)\, a Timed Kids Challenge (about 3k)\, a Sport (5-8 km) entry-level course\, and an Enduro (10-15 km) intermediate to advanced course. Certain venues may also offer a GRIT distance ranging between 15 and 25 km. \nThe series is open to runners of all ages\, abilities\, and ambitions. Please choose your distance category for each event during registration. Any discounts will be applied at checkout. \nStart/end times are subject to change due to weather conditions.
