Registration & Recertification Process

Please follow these steps to complete the returning registration and recertification process for Calgary Zone.

Step 1: Update your information in Yeti.  Select “Update your contact information and communication preferences”.

Step 2: Complete and submit the Calgary Zone Returning Patroller Form, including payment. You must be logged in to the Calgary Zone website to access the form.

NOTE: You must complete your registration before you attend your requalification day or September 30th, 2023, whichever comes first.  If you have not registered before your requalification day, you will not be able to participate.

Step 3: Sign up for a recertification weekend.  Use the Calgary Zone roster to sign up.

NOTE: You can sign up for a recertification weekend before you register.

Step 4: Complete online training modules.  Ensure you allow approximately 3 hours to complete the modules.

Log on to: courses.edu.skipatrol.ca (your username is your CSP ID).

eLearning to be completed:

  1. eAFA_2023_Requalification
  2. Alberta OHS Legislation 2023
  3. Advanced_first_aid_2023_exam (written test is online this year) – must be completed by October 14, 2023.

The online training and quizzes should take approximately two hours to complete. It will be tracked and should be completed by November 1, 2023.

The quizzes must be corrected to 100 per cent, but correct answers are provided for subsequent attempts so it shouldn’t be an issue.

The manual and other training documents are available under My CSP Student Training Resources on the CSP National website (you need to be logged in to access these). Current changes will be incorporated directly into that document. National will maintain a PDF version for the time being, and will list current changes in an appendix with references to the main document.

Step 5: Attend recertification day. (Note: you must bring a watch other than a smart watch for your diagnostic exam).

Step 6: (Hill Specific): Conduct any additional ski area specific weekend of training done through the individual patrol training departments (Contact your PL or APL Training for additional information)

Step 7: (On-Hill Training) Every three (3) years a mandatory on-hill ski / snowboard and toboggan test is required for every patroller. This is done through either the Calgary Zone On-hill department or the individual patrol APL training programs. Deadline for this exam is January 31st of the third year.

If you have any questions about the registration process, please contact Rebecca Taylor (rebecca.taylor@skipatrol.ca) and Robert Walker (robert.walker@skipatrol.ca).

Recertification Notes

If a patroller does not meet Steps 6 & 7 (but completes 1 through 5) they are allowed to practice first aid from a patrol base hut ONLY or at summer events. They are not allowed to be in the handles of a toboggan nor are they allowed to be on-snow in uniform.

Any patroller returning from sabbatical must complete recertification during the weekend of October 2 & 3. Please contact Brock Gillis (brock.gillis@skipatrol.ca) if you have any questions. Any patroller that does not complete these requirements will not be covered under the CSP National Insurance Program and is not considered a qualified patroller.

Please note that individual patrol groups may have additional requirements beyond the above minimum Calgary Zone Standards, including, but not limited to: Basic Avalanche Beacon Skills, Avalanche Safety Training Level 1 (AST 1), etc.
