If you are a returning patroller (entering your second or greater year), you must complete all of the following steps to complete the requalification process.

Step 1: Complete the Returning Patroller Fee Payment and Registration Form. Fees must be paid before you attend a Field Day or Requal Day. For the 2026-2027 season, the base membership fee for a returning patroller is $240. If you volunteered a minimum of 8 hours at the Calgary New and Used Ski Sale in October 2025 or served a shift at one of our casinos in 2026, you will receive a discount of $150. If you have difficulties with the form or payment, please contact Admin Support. 

Step 2: Recertification requires two education days this year. Sign up for one Requal Day and one Field Day using the Calgary Zone Roster. If you have difficulty logging in, contact Admin Support.

 

For 2026, Field Days will be held from 7:00 am to 4:30 pm at Kingsland Community Association, 505 78 Ave SW, on:

  • September 19 (Sat.)
  • October 3 (Sat.)
  • October 17 (Sat.)

Requal Days will be held from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm at West Hillhurst Community Association, 1940 6 Ave NW, on:

  • September 20 (Sun.)
  • October 4 (Sun.)
  • October 18 (Sun.)

According to Alberta OHS requirements, you must attend the full 16 hours of your Field and Requal Days.

Step 3: You must complete the AFA Yearly Update course, the AFA exam, the CPR exam, and the Alberta OHS course by October 31. To complete your online courses:

  1. Go to lms.skipatrol.ca . Log in using your email address and your YETI password (or go to skipatrol.ca/members, log into YETI, and then click on the Learning Centre icon).
  2. Click +CAS.
  3. Click My Courses in the menu at the top of the page to see all the courses available to you.
  4. Click AFA Yearly Update 2026. Complete all of the modules.
  5. When all of the modules are complete, you will be able to access your AFA and CPR BLS (Basic Life Support) exams. Click My Courses. Complete AFA Exam 2026 and CPR BLS Exam 2026.
  6. Click My Courses. Click Alberta OHS 2026 and complete this course too.

Step 4: Attend your Requal and Field Days. Bring an analog watch (not a smart watch). 

Step 6 (Hill-specific): Complete any additional ski area-specific training (usually a returning weekend). Contact your PL or APL Training for additional information. Individual patrol groups may have additional requirements beyond the above minimum Calgary Zone standards, including, but not limited to: Basic Avalanche Beacon Skills, Avalanche Safety Training Level 1 (AST 1), etc.

Step 7 (On-snow): Every three (3) years a mandatory on-hill ski/snowboard and toboggan test is required for every alpine patroller. This is done through either the Calgary Zone On-Snow Coordinator or the ski area APL training programs. The deadline for this ski test is January 31 of the third year.

NOTE: In-person requalification must be completed by October 18, and all online courses and exams must be completed by October 31. If these deadlines are not met, you will not be allowed to patrol for the season. Any patroller that does not complete these requirements is not covered under the CSP National Insurance Program. If you do not complete Steps 6 and 7 (but complete Steps 1 through 5), you may only practice first aid from a patrol base hut or at summer events. You are not allowed to be in the handles of a toboggan nor allowed to be on snow in uniform. Any patroller that does not complete Steps 6 and 7 is not considered a qualified on-snow patroller.
