Red Deer’s Canyon Ski Resort hosts 2020 Mountain Division instructor on snow

On snow instructors gather to improve and test on snow skills, drills and techniques

Leaders of the CSP Mountain Division’s on snow training and assessment program met for professional skills development February 27 to 29 at the Canyon Ski Resort near Red Deer Alberta.

The program saw attendees from across the CSP Mountain Division, including on snow instructors from Calgary, Red Deer, Edmonton, Southern Alberta, Pembina and Fort McMurray. In attendance was CSP Mountain Division Mike Palamarek, and the division on snow coordinator, Lance Barclay.

Topics covered included:

  • The CSP On Snow Checklist, including consistency in using the tool.
  • One-person toboggans, including skills development and assessment.
  • Rope use for securing toboggans in T-bar loading.
  • Two-person and multiple-person toboggan use and handling.
