On snow instructors hold annual division training session at Canyon Ski Resort
Toboggan handling, skiing and snowboarding skills, first aid and vacuum mats focus of March 4 and 5 event
On snow instructors from across the CSP Mountain Division met March 4 and 5 at Canyon Ski Resort and Recreation Area near Red Deer, to sharpen their skiing and snowboarding skills, their first aid and vacuum mattress techniques and toboggan handling expertise.
Led by the division on snow coordinator Lance Barclay and vice-president of education Chris Oliver, more than a dozen instructors rotated through different sessions aimed at improving their knowledge of and dexterity in on-snow-related aspects of patrolling, and their skills in sharing and assessing these competencies to and among patrollers. The event saw representatives from eight of the CSP Mountain Division’s 11 zones throughout Alberta and the Yukon.
Session leads included Lance, Palliser Zone President Paul Mackenzie, Chris (also the CSP patrol leader at Sunshine Village) and Division President Mike Palamarek.
Many thanks to Edmonton Zone and Will Dempsey for bring a couple of extra training toboggans from Edmonton, Paul Elkins from the Red Deer Zone CSP, who helped Lance with logistics, and to the Canyon Ski Resort, which supported the event in many ways.
Thanks too, to the CSP Red Deer Zone for hosting!
