Professional. Passionate. Proud. Three words that speak to the core of the Canadian Ski Patrol. We share a passion for serving others and have continued this legacy for the past 75 years. In 2017, we now have a new gift-giving option designed to keep the CSP legacy strong for many years to come: the Canadian Ski Patrol Endowment Fund. Through an agreement with the Community Foundation of Ottawa, we will be strengthening our capacity to deliver professional services across the country for generations to come.
The CSP Endowment Fund provides a means where monetary gifts of many types can be invested, and the income from those investments will support the CSP in perpetuity.
The financial management expertise of the Community Foundation of Ottawa (CFO) is based on three pillars of service: Asset growth and management, grant distribution, and community convening. Its nationally recognized board of directors is appointed by an external nominating committee chaired by the Governor of the Bank of Canada. The CFO is a registered charity that provides accountable and transparent financial management. It offers the Canadian Ski Patrol a sound track record with an excellent return on investments. Through this partnership, the CSP will secure a sustainable financial future that provides support for ongoing operations, special projects, activities and enhancement of CSP services.
The Canadian Ski Patrol Endowment Fund will have access through the CFO to philanthropic and legacy gifts including: cash donation, publicly listed securities, gifts in kind, bequests, life insurance, registered plans, residual interest trusts, and charitable remainder trusts. Legacy giving is a meaningful way to enhance our current fundraising platforms. Building the CSP asset base through a community foundation fund also deepens our charitable fundraising networks and serves to strengthen our organization.
The Canadian Ski Patrol membership base is a vibrant group of people dedicated to providing first aid, rescue and transport services coast to coast to coast through all four seasons of the year. Seventy-five years of operation has demonstrated the need for our services and the dedication of the patrollers across Canada that deliver them. The CSP fund will allow us to grow into the future while honouring our past. Members are encouraged to learn more about the CFO and to keep updated on future developments. We will all want to share the great news of this new giving option.
A small advisory committee comprised of CSP members Riley Wilcox, Richard Asselin, Jeffrey Reath, Colin Saravanamuttoo and Brian Low has worked with the CSP board of directors and its national office to develop the Canadian Ski Patrol Endowment Fund. The committee is excited to be providing additional information at the CSP Leadership Conference to be held March 30 to April 2, 2017 at Big White Ski Resort and on the national website in the future.
