Ah, September… A time when we all start thinking about the approaching patrol season, winter and the wonder of skiing and snowboarding. Make no mistake, it is coming. Thank God.

In the spirit of all winter has to offer, CSP Mountain Division is extremely pleased to offer a top-notch destination ski and snowboard improvement clinic for patrollers, their friends, and families, in two available sessions in January and February, 2018. The Ski Improvement Clinic takes place at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, in Golden, B.C., with a 4,000-foot-plus vertical, 2,800 skiable acres, fantastic snow (seven metres a year), and instruction from top-level CSIA and CASI instructors. All competency levels of skiers and snow boarders are welcome, from never-ever to super star. We really hope you’ll join us.

In 2018, two clinic weeks are being offered; Week 1 from January 28 to February 2, and Week 2 from February 11 to 16, 2018, due to overwhelming demand. The event has sold out in each of the last three years, and last year was full by the end of October. Mountain Division has been arranging and offering clinics like this on a break-even basis for more than three decades, and it just keeps getting better and better. Patrollers and their friends come from across Canada and around the world for this event, which delivers great value, a great experience, great learning, and great new friends in a fantastic setting.

Each of the clinic weeks begins with a Sunday arrival and Sunday night social, five hours of group instruction on each of Monday through Thursday (20-plus hours of instruction total), a celebratory banquet on the Thursday evening, and day of un-programmed skiing and snowboarding on the Friday.

There’s also the legendary Ski Improvement hosts’ party, lots (and lots) of socializing including our daily er, hydration sessions at Peaks Grill, and while there’s fine dining nearby, many attendees plan and eat home-cooked meals together in the condo-style accommodations. The special CSP Ski Improvement group discounts at Kicking Horse retail and food outlets will be better than ever (seriously), and our CSP Mountain Division Ski Improvement swag has quickly become collectors’ items. The discounts are sweet: In 2017, multiple attendees took advantage of the pricing to buy complete, high-end ski or snowboard equipment packages.

Clinic pricing is excellent, with 20 hour-plus of lessons, five days of lifts and the spectacular wrap-up banquet coming in at $571. Accommodation pricing is very competitive, particularly for shared accommodation. Discounted prices are available for accommodation and lift tickets before and after each clinic, for those that want to get in extra days. We also have special lift pricing for children and youths. Skills improvement is at the centre of the offering and for this reason lessons are a mandatory part of the clinic package: This is much, much more than just an amazing ski trip.

We have instruction groups for all levels of competence in either skiing or snowboarding, so there is a spot for everyone. New for 2018, we are hoping to attract adequate numbers to support a Telemark instruction group.

Registrations for both sessions are already well into the double digits, so don’t delay taking advantage of this great event. It does sell out.
