Meet the Canadian Ski Patrol’s first four-legged member!

His name is Dieter. He’s a five year-old Golden Retriever who is both a validated Avalanche Rescue Dog with the Canadian Avalanche Rescue Dog Association (CARDA) and a member of the Canadian Ski Patrol.

During the winter months, he works with Frank Lehniger at Castle Mountain Resort in Pincher Creek, Alberta. In the case of an avalanche, his unique skillset (four legs and a very strong sense of smell!) can help to locate skiers and snowboarders trapped beneath a mountain of snow.

If you’ve signed up to our email newsletter, check your inbox and learn about Dieter’s heart-warming journey to working with the Canadian Ski Patrol. Like us on Facebook or follow us on Twitter? Share Dieter’s story with  friends so they can learn about the great work he does in helping Canadians stay safe.

Help support the lifesaving work of Dieter and the Canadian Ski Patrol. Consider making a donation today. Thanks to financial support from members and supporters across the country, we continue to provide first aid and rescue services to over 230 resorts across Canada.

Dieter and his CSP friends wish you a safe ski and snowboard season throughout 2017-18!
