Dear CSP member,

We are pleased to provide an update on an important strategic initiative for the Canadian Ski Patrol. In earlier communications on the CSP Facebook group and in our 5/5 newsletter, we introduced the concept of potentially licensing a third party’s first aid program. This concept was first floated at a joint board/management committee meeting in June, arising from concerns that the demands of developing, updating and publishing our manual are pushing our volunteer team to the breaking point. There is concern for the future sustainability of our current approach.

Our national management committee was given the mandate to investigate potential solutions to the identified problem/concern. This mandate included looking at three options:

  1. examining external third-party first aid programs;
  2. examining our ability to invest in our existing program;
  3. maintaining the status quo.

Early in 2018, we will be kicking off an alternative analysis to look at the pros and cons of the different options, including costing considerations. We will be selecting a team of participants to conduct the analysis, with representation from different parts of the organization. The analysis will produce a report to the board for review, discussion and consideration.

The board and management committee will continue to take a transparent approach. From the beginning, we have shared information through a variety of channels, including social media, and have set up the questions@skipatrol.ca address.

We are interested to see the results of the analysis. However, it’s important to emphasize this is still a concept, and no decision has been made to pursue one option over another.

We will continue to provide you with updates as this process continues. We are taking the time to do a proper investigation so the board has the necessary information on which to base an informed decision. We do not want to rush and make the wrong decision for the Canadian Ski Patrol.

The CSP board and management committee remain confident that we will find the right solution for the organization. As always, we’re available if you have any questions.

Thank you for your ongoing commitment to the Canadian Ski Patrol. We wish you and yours the best of the season – and happy patrolling in 2018!
