In 2022 the CSP recognized two individuals who achieved 60 years of dedicated service. Earlier in the year, Doug MacLean was recognized (see article here), and more recently George Kryschuk. We owe a debt of gratitude to them for all that they have accomplished.

George Kryschuk joined the Canadian Ski Patrol and founded Red River Zone in 1961.

He was awarded national Life Member No. 20 for his outstanding contributions to the CSP in all areas – patrolling, instructing and administration, to name a few. He has not stopped.

He is a current active member, continuing patrol duties in the winter several times each week. In addition, George regularly patrols at almost every non-ski event that Red River Zone takes part in. These have included the annual Winnipeg International Children’s Festival, Manitoba Marathon, Birds Hill Duathlon, Run2Believe, Manitoba Cycling Association races, the 2017 Canada Summer Games, the wintertime Beat the Cold Triathlon and many, many more.

George has held many positions in Red River Zone and Manitoba Division throughout his patrol career including, zone and division president, zone and division training manager, instructor, and instructor trainer. He is at every training class, teaching and mentoring candidates and returning patrollers alike.

His long professional career was in safety-making the ski patrol a natural fit – and he served on the board of directors of the Manitoba Safety Council in the 1980s.

He has volunteered with many different organizations in Winnipeg over the years but his love of skiing and safety have resulted in his lifelong commitment to the Canadian Ski Patrol.

We are lucky indeed to have a patroller of the calibre of George Kryschuk and join with him in celebrating his 60 years of service.
