In early February 2026 a team of patrollers spent a weekend at Camp Mercier in Quebec Zone to capture video footage and still photography of CSP Nordic patrollers in action on the trails.
Supporting recruitment and retention for our Nordic patrol members
Over the past few years, the national level of the CSP has been working hard to better support members who are on-snow certified in the Nordic discipline.
In 2024 and 2025, new Nordic Helly Hansen outerwear items were tested by select Nordic patrollers across the country, allowing us to launch a dedicated Nordic kit to members in September 2025. Following that was the release of new on-snow materials (a training record and training booklet), with suitable video and images showcasing Nordic-specific duties.
The CSP National Management Committee recognizes the need to have Nordic-specific media to support zones in recruitment efforts for Nordic teams across the country. Providing support materials that reflect an important part of the CSP family is more inclusive of the snow sliding participants we serve. The materials may be used on social media, for print or experiential marketing needs.
Location and Nordic talent/patrollers selection
A lot of consideration was made to select a suitable Nordic ski area, with the project team deciding to film in Quebec for the snow conditions and the quintessential “look” of what Nordic trails offers.
Current Nordic patrollers of different ages who speak both English and French were selected so that the voices of our membership could be reflected through a bilingual video.
Thanks to the efforts of a few Quebec Zone executives, we were fortunate to find three patrollers out of Camp Mercier, to be our actors, or “talent.”
Camp Mercier – the Cadillac of Nordic centres

Through consultation with Quebec Division and zone executives, we received permission from the management of Camp Mercier to film at their main lodge, on trails, and at the warming huts.
The staff of Camp Mercier were incredible, supporting our team and allowing us to film in the main lodge, on the trails, even capturing drone footage. Their support enabled us to be efficient and comprehensive in what we could capture.
Despite filming on a Saturday and Sunday – generally the busiest two days of the week – we were fortunate to not create any bottlenecks or disruptions for the guests of the ski area.
And in terms of the trail system, it felt like skiing in a fairy tale! We lucked out with magical weather and conditions! We cannot wait for you to see the final edits!
Behind the scenes
We are currently working on the final video edits (long- and short-form clips) and a selection of still photography, but we wanted to share some of the behind the scenes to tease what’s coming.
