On Saturday, March 29, 2025, the South Okanagan Boundary Zone brought back the excitement of division first aid competitions with an engaging on-snow contest at Apex Mountain Resort, near Penticton, B.C.. This event provided patrollers with a valuable opportunity to put their first aid skills to the test in a fast-paced, real-world scenario.

Modelled after the division first aid competitions held pre-pandemic, the competition was designed to sharpen skills and foster camaraderie among patrollers. Three teams took part, representing each of the weekend shifts (A Shift, B Shift, and C Shift), including an enthusiastic rookie team composed of first-year patrollers.

The competition included a simulated on-snow first-aid scenario alongside a toboggan handling and transport challenge. Judging was conducted by a panel of experienced local and retired instructors.

All teams performed exceptionally well, highlighting the high level of skill and dedication among the zone’s patrollers.

Judges and participants alike provided glowing feedback, affirming the competition’s value in reinforcing key patrolling skills.

Encouraged by this year’s success, the zone is excited to continue the event in future seasons, with discussions underway to potentially expand participation to the broader Pacific South and Pacific North divisions.
