In early 2025, we launched our new Pets of Patrollers feature to highlight the happiness and comfort we experience when our animal friends interact with us.
For our fifth feature of the year, here are June pets:
Loop, Newfoundland and Labrador
Loop is a five-year-old Mudi (Hungarian herding dog) firecracker! She loves barking at squirrels and running at the speed of lightning in the woods, then napping on the back of the couch.
Owner: Alya Perry, White Hills Resort, Newfoundland and Labrador Zone.
Molly, Quebec
Molly is about six-ish. She was a rescue from Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society (AARCS) when we got her in 2020. [AARCS] gave us an age range, so we picked the midpoint and assigned March 20 as her birthday.
We picked Molly as a rescue dog during the pandemic as our first dog, Meka, had passed away. Molly has really filled the gap as she enjoys walking in the mountains as well as the local parks. When playing at the dog parks she loves full contact playing with bigger dogs (i.e. – chest bumping, mouthing etc.). She loves to sniff out rabbits and their droppings…could almost be a snack item…lol. She is quite motivated by food and lets us know when it is mealtime, which is bothersome when the clocks change, and no one informs her of this. Based on her DNA she is a mixed bag of shepherd, and three other breeds that I have never heard of.”
Owner: Paul Elkins, VP Education/Zone Training Officer, Canyon Ski Resort, Red Deer Zone.
How to get your pet featured
Please send an email to Diana Lee (diana.lee@skipatrol.ca) with the subject line: “Pets of Patrollers: Your Name, Your Pet Name” and the following details:
- Name, age, breed of your pet (e.g., Onyx, two years old, German Shepherd dog).
- Fun fact or an interesting detail about your pet and what they mean to you.
- Attach a photo of your pet (bonus points if they are wearing CSP gear).
- Your zone and the name of the resort(s) you patrol at.
Mental health is an important aspect of the Canadian Ski Patrol. We hope that these pet photos spark joy throughout your 2025 season.
Even for those who don’t have pets, interacting or even seeing an animal can boost their mood. Just think of the positive impact of therapy dogs.
