The CSP welcomes Lindsey Langs as the new national avalanche program coordinator and Darren Bezubiak as the avalanche education liaison with Mountain Division.
In her own words:
“Lindsey Langs is a hydrologist by trade, researching water, snow and ice in the Rocky Mountains for the last decade. She has bridged her scientific understanding of water with the recreational side – diving deeper into the snow and avalanche world as a Lake Louise CSP Patroller starting her fourth season, joining the team of KPOW Catskiing for tail guiding, helping to deliver AST1 education and now as the incoming national avalanche program coordinator for the CSP. She’s lived and worked in the Canmore area for close to 10 years now, originally hailing from Ontario where she learned to ski at Horseshoe Valley Resort with parents who were also CSP ski patrollers. She’s excited to tackle the avalanche education portfolio with guidance from Ken Lukawy as he transitions to a mentorship role after decades of dedication to the avalanche education world.”
As Lindsey notes, Ken has stepped back from the national role and will continue to provide mentorship to the incoming leadership.
CSP Mountain Division is the financial supporter of the CSP’s avalanche programs. To assist Lindsey, Darren Bezubiak will be the liaison with Mountain Division.
The CSP’s avalanche instructor group continues to expand. Four CSP members are working towards attaining Canadian Avalanche Association membership as Basic Avalanche Educators.
The CSP will continue to be licensed by AvCan to provide avalanche skills courses. Our current instructor group can provide the following courses:
- Avalanche Skills Training (AST) 1.
- AST 1 Refresher.
- Companion Rescue Skills (CRS).
Other Avalanche Canada training courses, i.e. the AST 2 course, require a higher level of instructor qualification and are organized on a yearly basis.
