The annual meeting of members was originally scheduled for June 6, 2020, in Calgary, Alberta. On March 17, the province of Alberta announced the emergency declaration, prohibiting large assemblies of people, forcing the cancellation of the annual meeting.
Following consultations with division presidents and others, the CSP board of directors applied to Industry Canada for an extension to the deadline to hold the annual meeting. In May, approval was received to conduct the annual meeting by the end of September, 2020. The meeting is now scheduled for September 26, 2020. It is uncertain if emergency declarations will continue to be in effect at that time.
In addition, the board of directors has implemented expenditure management measures and extensively revised the 2020–2021 draft budget to reflect the possible impacts of the strain on the economy and the threat of pandemic illness. Among other measures, all business travel is cancelled for the foreseeable future. Therefore, this annual meeting of members will be the first virtual meeting conducted entirely by electronic means. A team of CSP members with experience in technology was launched several weeks ago to prepare a market scan of suitable software platforms. This team will reach out to other members with similar experience in the coming weeks.
Specific announcements are forthcoming on the following dates:
- July 28: Formal announcement of annual meeting, call for members’ proposals and call for nominations of candidates for election to the board of directors (On proposals, such proposals not in conflict with the Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act and regulations or other federal or provincial statutes or regulations, may be submitted concerning changes to the articles of incorporation; changes to the bylaw; changes to the regulation; changes to policy; or directions to the board of directors or to management.)
- August 22: Second notice of annual meeting and deadline to receive members’ proposals and nominations of candidates
- September 5: Third and final notice of annual meeting of members
- September 26: Annual meeting of members conducted by electronic means.
