By Elizabeth Oldfield, Communications Team Member (<\/i><\/b>oldfield@telusplanet.net<\/i><\/b><\/span><\/a>)<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n Terry Abrams was named as the 2024 recipient of the FIPS Mark Labow Award, presented earlier at this year\u2019s FIPS Congress held in Riksgr\u00e4nsen, Sweden. The award was re-presented to him at the Calgary Zone awards gathering this summer.<\/p>\n FIPS stands for the F\u00e9d\u00e9ration Internationale des Patrouilles de Ski and is a world forum for ski patrollers to meet, exchange ideas and compare the latest in patrol techniques. Earlier in the year we have featured articles about this year\u2019s congress which can be found here<\/span><\/a> and here<\/span><\/a> and here<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n Terry Abrams has been involved with FIPS since 1993 where he presented a session entitled An Introduction to Critical Incident Stress and Stress Debriefing<\/i>, a then-emerging program in the CSP. Since then, he has presented or co-presented sessions on multiple topics including pain management and the CSP, AED implementation in ski patrols in Canada, CPR on the move (a combination of lecture and skill stations), pediatric assessment, and discussion of COVID experiences internationally in the ski patrolling environment.<\/p>\n In addition, Terry has participated in the FIPS Medical Special Interest Committee since 2016 and is currently the committee coordinator.<\/p>\n![\"\"](\"https:\/\/cspnational.s3.ca-central-1.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2024\/08\/09192439\/image.082024.FIPS-Terry-on-the-slope-225x300.jpeg\")
<\/p>\nTerry is held in high esteem by all FIPS members and is respected for his knowledge and leadership. He has many friends from our ski patrol community around the world. Having participated in many world congresses with Terry and worked with him in FIPS and within the CSP, I can assure you he was a most deserving recipient of the Mark Labow Award.
