Each of these pieces shapes how the public, partners, and recruits see us. To keep that story clear and professional, it is important that anything carrying the CSP name or logo follows the national communications guidelines.

This article is a quick reminder of the key points from the CSP Communications Guide and how they apply when you create CSP‑branded materials like clothing, signage, digital content, and social media posts.

Brand, branding, and why it matters

Our brand is more than the red and white maple leaf cross on our uniforms. It is the overall impression people have of CSP: professional, passionate, and proud. Branding is everything we do to build that impression, including our logo use, colours, fonts, wording, and tone.

When each division, zone and patrol follows the same core guidelines, we look like one unified, coherent organization, no matter where people meet us. That consistency helps with recruitment, partnerships, fundraising, and our credibility as the leading authority in on snow first aid and rescue.

Using the CSP logo correctly

The CSP logo is one of our most visible brand elements, so it needs careful handling. Official versions of the logo and related artwork are available through the communications resources here.

A few key reminders when you put the logo on clothing, posters, digital graphics, or sponsor materials:

If using our logo on red fabric, make sure the cross inside the maple leaf is not the red fabric; we cannot have a red cross on any of our branding, the cross must be white wherever possible.

Use only approved logo files (no redrawing, tracing, or recreating from low‑resolution images).

Do not stretch, squish, recolour, or rearrange the elements of the logo.

Keep a clear space around the logo so it is easy to read and not crowded by other text or graphics.

Any custom variation or change to proportions, sizing, or orientation relative to text needs written approval from the national CSP Communications and Marketing Portfolio Leader Kerri Loudoun.

If you are working with a printer, embroidery shop, or designer, make sure they use the official files and understand that they cannot alter the logo.

Colours, fonts, and imagery

Our visual look is built from more than just the logo. The brand colours, fonts, and photography style all work together to create a consistent identity.

When you design CSP‑branded materials:

Use the CSP brand colours specified in the guide for both print and digital pieces so red, black and white match across platforms.

Use the recommended fonts and font pairings; this keeps posters, social assets, and documents looking like they come from one organization.

Choose imagery that reflects CSP values: safety, professionalism, inclusivity, teamwork, and service to the public.

Avoid images that could be confusing, unsafe, or off‑brand (for example, shots that show poor on‑hill behaviour or unsafe actions).

If you need ready‑to‑use templates, logos, or graphics, the Communications Guide page includes a collection of downloadable branded resources.

Writing in the CSP voice

How we sound is just as important as how we look. The CSP “brand voice” is clear, professional, friendly, and focused on safety, service, and education.

When you write content for CSP channels or CSP‑branded materials:

Align your message with CSP values and key messaging, as outlined in the guide.

Keep language respectful, inclusive, and free of jargon where possible, especially for public‑facing materials.

Adjust tone slightly to fit the medium (for example, more conversational on social media, more formal in reports or media releases) while still sounding like the CSP.

Focus on what CSP does best: injury prevention, on snow first aid, rescue, and promoting safe snow sports.

Before you hit post or print, read your text once with a public audience in mind: does this sound like something you would be comfortable seeing quoted in the news or shared widely? Reading out loud can be very helpful.

Social media and “semi‑official” channels

Many members are active on social media, posting from patrol accounts or personal profiles that reference CSP.
