Fall Recerts
The fall recert season is fast approaching. Here are some important dates:
Sept 7: 3rd year Assistant Instructor and Instructor (AI/I) Updates
Sept 8/9: AI/I Recerts
Sept 15/16: Returnee Recert #1
Sept 24-27: Returnee Mid-Week Recert (Recert #2)
Sept 29-30: Start of Rookie training
Oct 20/21: Last Returnee Recert (Recert #3)
Nov 17: Rookie Mass Casualty Simulation (Open to all Patrollers)
Dec 1-2: Rookie On-hill training (at Rabbit Hill Snow Resort)
You can sign up for recert dates here.
Recerts will run from 0800 – 1600 on the weekend dates, and from 1800 – 2200 on the midweek dates. The mass casualty simulation is a volunteer event for the 2018 rookie class (it is not a test!), and we are requesting patrollers to participate as victims. Make-up and props will be provided!
Fall Recert Format
Format for Alberta Patrollers will not change. We will be doing a 100 question CSP exam, 20 question CPR exam and a 5 question OH&S exam. We also will be doing the skills sheet and a diagnostic exam. You will need to score 80% to pass.
Note that despite what many of you may have heard or read, we will not be utilising Canadian Red Cross training materials.
Instructor and Assistant Instructor Volunteer Sign Up
Instructors and Assistant Instructors can help with the rookie class and with returnee recerts after they have successfully recerted (we recomment that Instructors and Assistant Instructors recert on September 8/9, see above). The AI/I volunteer signup is located here.
Avalanche Training Course
We will be holding an AST1 course at Marmot Basin during the 2018/19 season. Stay tuned for further details.
