We have two fantastic events that we are short of patrollers for:
Sour Dough Raft Race
This takes place on July 22. We start the day at Terwillegar Park, where they put the rafts/ boats into the water and have a pancake breakfast. Usually this involves handing out a few bandages, removing a few splinters and if we are lucky, a sprain or a strain. We are stationed there until the last boat is in the water. We then head to Rafters Landing, where they take the boats out of the water and there is a BBQ. To the above injuries we can add hypothermia, heat exhaustion and second degree sunburn. We are short 4 volunteers for this event.
Tour de L’Alberta
This is a fun bicycle race that is put on by the Edmonton Bicycle commuters on July 29th. There are courses of various lengths (50km, 100km, 160km), with all events starting in Beaumont, and the longest goes out to Tofield. We have first aid stations set up throughout the courses, and we work in teams of two. The event wraps up with a spaghetti meal in Beaumont. Incidents at this event in the past have been minimal; and have included concussions and asthma problems. We are short 10 volunteers.
If you are interested in either event, please sign up here.
