This just in from Edmonton Zone President Michael Cava:
On snow:
In addition to the Edmonton Zone commitment for a certain number of trained patrol volunteers at ski areas, we have agreements with various other groups for first aid provision at their events. The CSP Edmonton Zone is not paid for provision of first aid, and we are sincerely appreciative of any donations or honorariums we receive from these groups.
As a patroller you have been assigned a roster position at a ski area and the commitment is comprised of one weekday evening shift or one shift every second weekend day, time and length of shift to be determined by the Patrol Leader. It will be your responsibility as a rostered patrol member to ensure the shift is maintained either by you or a certified spare.
Fundraising:
Fundraising is part of being a member of the CSP Edmonton Zone and as a member your second requirement is to volunteer at two events beyond the normal on-snow commitments. These events can include; but is not limited to the following: bingos, casinos, Birkebeiner, 5 Peaks Race, Sour Dough Raft Race, MSBike Tour, Kids of Steel, International Triathlon Union. Funds generated at these events aid in offsetting the cost of zone membership fees and fully subsidize the division and national membership fees. Fundraising also enables the zone to purchase the equipment and supplies necessary for advanced first aid training and patrolling.
A spreadsheet has been uploaded to the zone website (located here). It outlines events past and future for the current year. If you have worked an event there will be a 1 or 2 (if you brought someone along to work that event with you) in that column. Any event that you have signed up for in the future is also on this sheet. You can sign up for future events at www.volunteersignup.org/3W9PF. If there are any errors or omissions on the spreadsheet, then please contact me ASAP and I will correct them. Note it is your responsibility to find someone to replace you if you cannot fulfill your fundraising commitments.
There are about 300 volunteer shifts opportunities this year, and we have completed a little over a third of them, so sign up quickly in order to reserve your choice of shifts.
If you do not fulfill your 2 shifts in one season, be advised we will cash your $100 performance cheques, and next year you will be required to provide us with two $150 cheques/ money draft.
Any questions, please feel free to email me.
