By Geoff Scotton – Former Ski Improvement Clinic Coordinator, Mountain Division (geoffscotton@skipatrol.ca)

Fall is in the air, and winter is on the horizon. Which also means time is running out to register for the 2027 Canadian Ski Patrol Mountain Division Ski Improvement Clinic at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort. Spaces in the legendary event are filling up, but there are still opportunities to join.

The clinic program includes four days of group lessons in either skiing or snowboarding, five days of lift access and a celebratory banquet on the Thursday night, all at the world-class venue of Kicking Horse Mountain Resort. Attendees receive group ski or snowboard instruction for more than 20 hours across four days, in groups of comparable competencies to optimize learning.

Full event details and registration information can be found on the CSP Mountain Division website.

Along with the fabulous instruction, there’s a full and fun social agenda, awesome swag, and attendees have access to great discounts on food, retail goods, and many other offerings. This event attracts hundreds of satisfied CSP members and their friends and family from across Canada and around the world.

Demand has been unprecedented since registrations opened in late June. Two of the three weeks on offer have sold out: Week 3 – February 21 to 26, 2027, and Week 2 – January 31 to February 5, 2027. There is still ample room in Week 1, January 17 to 22, 2027.

The 2027 offering marks the sixth decade of Mountain Division supporting ski and snowboard skills improvement for patrollers, their friends, and their families by organizing and offering the clinic at cost.

There are a few changes this year, including the organizing team, the registration platform, and accommodations booking. Please, review the linked website information. Also, in 2027 we will offer adult and youth group instruction for our clinic, however child group lessons will be offered directly by Kicking Horse at special pricing.

Franziska (Franzi) Middrup, a CSP Edmonton Zone patroller, is working with Geoff Scotton as the new clinic coordinator. Gordon Merz and Jarrett McRitchie (and Geoff) remain critical members of the team. Franzi is the main clinic contact at franziska.middrup@skipatrol.ca.
