In 1968, along with the Jasper Warden Service, the Edmonton Zone started patrolling at Marmot Basin. This season marks 50 years of patrolling from November to early May. The Marmot patrol is organized into two weekend groups, the Camelherders and the Roadrunners and there have been over 350 Alumni in 50 years of patrolling. The current Marmot patrol is organizing a 50th Anniversary celebration on Saturday April 7th. On-hill events include a toboggan race and the longest skis with safety straps will probably automatically win. There is a Banquet on Saturday night and over 100 Alumni are currently RSVP’ed. If you haven’t been contacted yet, please send an email to Mike Palamarek, Patrol Leader at Marmot Basin and a 2nd generation Camelherder (mikep@cybertech.ca). Come celebrate with the Roadrunners/Camelherders as they start another 50 years of patrolling Marmot Basin.
