Eager high-country candidates at the top of the Marmot Basin Paradise Chair

Are you interested in joining the exciting world of high-country patrolling at Marmot Basin?

The CSP Marmot Patrol is split into two rosters, the Camelherders and the Roadrunners. The two rosters patrol on alternate weekends throughout the ski season, usually from mid-November to the first weekend of May.

To become high-country certified, you will need to complete the following steps:

  1. A High Country Training Weekend comprising ski and toboggan handling training and evaluation (tentative training weekends are December 11/12 [Camelherders], January 15/16 [Roadrunners] and February 5/6 [backup Camelherder weekend if conditions marginal on December 11/12]).
  2. An Orientation Weekend which will be scheduled individually with candidates who pass the High Country Training Weekend. The Orientation Weekend will cover hill and radio procedures and will culminate in a patient treatment and extraction test scenario (Orientation Run Exam).
  3. Two Shadow Weekends which will be scheduled individually with patrollers who pass the Orientation Weekend. Patrollers on Shadow Weekends are considered part of the Marmot CSP team, but are required to shadow more experienced patrollers.

Patrollers who complete all three steps of the training process are considered to be fully-fledged Marmot Basin CSP Patrol members and will be added to the spares list for the rest of the season. They may also fill any vacant roster spots that become available.
