The Canadian Ski Patrol is pleased to welcome Dr. Kyle McLaughlin to its medical advisory committee. Dr. McLaughlin is an emergency medicine physician based in Canmore, Alberta, with a distinguished career combining emergency care, wilderness medicine, and mountain rescue.
A lifelong skier who grew up on the slopes of the Gatineau Hills and the Laurentians – at Vorlage, Camp Fortune, Edelweiss, and Mont Ste‑Marie – Dr. McLaughlin has been part of the mountain community for decades. Since 2003, he has volunteered as an on hill ski patrol physician at Banff Sunshine Village, providing direct medical support to patrollers and guests alike. He has also served as an on‑course physician for the Lake Louise World Cup, and as corporate physician for Canadian Mountain Holidays (CMH), offering medical guidance for their heli‑ski operations.
Internationally, Dr. McLaughlin is active as faculty for the Canadian Society for Mountain Medicine, where he teaches the winter diploma in mountain medicine course, and he recently presented at the 2026 FIPS Ski Patrol World Congress on snow submersion asphyxiation and on‑snow rescue techniques. His contributions to Parks Canada’s mountain rescue operations, his leadership within the International Commission for Alpine Rescue (ICAR MedCom), and his extensive peer‑reviewed research and publications in wilderness and mountain medicine have helped shape best practices for medical care in remote and alpine environments.
Dr. McLaughlin brings to the medical advisory committee a wealth of experience in emergency medicine, mountain rescue, and ski patrol medicine, along with a deep commitment to rescuer safety and education in Canada’s mountain environment.
