Stéphane Niles

Stéphane has been a proud and passionate member of the Canadian Ski Patrol since 2001.

Soon after joining the Crabbe Mountain patrol near Fredericton, NB, he developed a desire to help others learn first aid and patrolling skills, and became an assistant instructor, instructor and instructor trainer over the course of the following years. In 2005, he took on the role of patrol leader, where he helped grow the patrol and improve communications with its members.

In 2006, Stéphane took on the role of VP Education for the Atlantic West Division. As a member of the National Education Committee, Stéphane was actively involved with the modularization of the CSP Advanced First Aid training program. His proudest accomplishment within the CSP was the successful publication of three editions of the Patroller Manual as National Manual Coordinator between 2010 and 2015.

In 2012, Stéphane joined a team of patrollers from the Ontario Division developing a standard first aid course and business plan, with the goal of providing a source of new revenue to the organization by offering the training to non-patrollers. The course obtained accreditation from the Ontario Workplace Safety and Insurance Board in late 2014, and the team was recognized for their work with an Ontario Division Special Achievement Award.

In addition to those roles, Stéphane has provided guidance, assistance and mentorship to patrollers, groups and leaders within the organization for many years.

He is the recipient of the Canadian Ski Patroller Award and is a life member of the Atlantic West Division.

Stéphane is a bilingual Professional Electrical Engineer, registered with Engineers & Geoscientists New Brunswick, and a long-standing member of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers). He has 20 years of IT and project management experience, including 10 years leading multi-disciplinary teams and managing operational budgets in both the public and private sectors. He is knowledgeable in change management and process design and was involved in defining IT service offerings as part of the creation of a provincial government shared services agency. More recently, he has focused his career on cybersecurity.

Stéphane (a.k.a. "Niles") and his wife, France, have two wonderful young children, Philippe and Élise. He is a fan of all things technology, electric vehicles, renewable energy, space rocketry and exploration. He once tried telemark skiing out of sheer curiosity... and has had a free heel ever since.

His vision for the organization is a CSP that provides an enhanced membership experience though the use of modern tools and streamlined processes, has an efficient corporate structure that encourages collaboration and trust and is financially sustainable.

Stéphane is honoured to have the opportunity to serve the CSP membership as a National Director and encourages members to reach out to him to discuss any questions, concerns or ideas they may have. He can be reached at stephane.niles@skipatrol.ca.
